After surgery, it's essential to give both your mind and body ample time to rest and recuperate. It's normal to experience increased fatigue and a reduced level of energy during the initial 6 weeks following the procedure. It's also common to notice bruising and swelling. The bruising typically diminishes within about 2 weeks, and a significant portion of the swelling should improve within 6 weeks. However, it's important to note that some degree of swelling may persist for up to 3 months after the surgery.

  • Showering: You can start showering 48 hours after surgery, but be very gentle. Avoid scrubbing the incisions and pat them dry.
  • Immersion Restrictions: Avoid baths, Jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, swimming, or fully submerging the incisions until they've completely healed. This usually takes at least 4 weeks after surgery.
  • Tape: Keep the tapes on the incisions for 4-6 weeks; they'll be removed at the office. If they start peeling, you can trim excess tape with clean scissors.
  • Sleeping Position (Week 1): Sleep inclined at about 30 degrees for the first week after surgery. Consider using a recliner or pillows under your knees and back to prevent rolling over onto your breasts.
  • Sleeping Position (After 1 week): You can start sleeping flat and on your sides after 1 week.
  • Bra Usage: Wear a soft sports bra or surgical bra day and night for 4 weeks. It doesn't need to be tight, just comfortable and snug for support.
  • Bra Usage (Weeks 4-6): After 4 weeks, remove the bra for sleep but continue wearing it during the day until 6 weeks post-op. Consider having extra bras on hand at home.
  • Recommended Bra Features: Look for a front-hook or zip-up sports bra without underwires, with a wide bottom band and comfortable material. The lower band fit is crucial.
  • Breast Massage: Only massage if specifically instructed to do so.
  • Underwire Bras: You can wear underwire bras if desired after 6 weeks.
  • New Bras and Swimsuits: Start purchasing new bras and swimsuits after 6 weeks.
  • W
  • eight Restrictions (2 weeks): Avoid lifting, pushing, or pulling anything over 2 lbs for 2 weeks.
  • Arm Movement (2 weeks): Keep your arms at your side and avoid large stretching and reaching motions during the first 2 weeks.
  • Activity Timeline:
    • Week 1: Light walks.
    • Week 3: Walking on a treadmill or using recumbent bikes.
    • Week 4: Resume all activities except those using the chest and upper body.
    • Week 6: Resume all activities, including upper body exercises, yoga, pilates, weights, and sports.
