Following your gynecomastia surgery, you will need ample rest for both your body and mind to ensure a swift, comfortable recovery period. Expect reduced energy levels during the initial 4-week period after the procedure. Swelling and bruising are common post-surgery experiences, with bruising typically fading within 2-3 weeks. While most swelling diminishes within 6 weeks, it's possible to have some residual swelling for about 3-4 months following the procedure.
- Showering: You can shower again starting 48 hours after the surgery, but remember to be very gentle and avoid scrubbing the incisions.
- Water Activities: Refrain from baths, saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, swimming, or otherwise submerging the incisions until they have fully healed. This usually takes at least 4 weeks after the surgery.
- Tape: Leave the tapes on the incisions in place. They typically remain for 4-6 weeks.
- Arnica Cream: Apply Arnica cream to the bruised areas three times per day.
- Lifting Restrictions: Avoid lifting, pushing, or pulling anything heavier than 2 lbs for the first 2 weeks.
- Support Garment: Wear a support garment, such as a surgical vest, day and night for the first 4 weeks. Compression vests or tight compression shirts are also suitable options.
- Garment Usage: After 4 weeks, you can remove the garment while sleeping, but continue wearing it during the day until 6 weeks post-op.
- Activity Timeline:
- Week 1: Focus on gentle walking around the house (walking helps prevent blood clots). Aim for 10-15 minutes of walking, 3-4 times a day.
- Week 2: Gradually increase activity with light walks around the neighborhood.
- Week 3: Engage in light lower body exercises and cardio.
- Week 4: Incorporate light arm and abdominal exercises.
- Week 5: Include light back exercises.
- Week 6: Introduce light shoulder and chest exercises.
