Schedule ConsultationAlso known as an eyelid lift, upper blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery that is designed to cut out extra skin or even remove the extra fat in the upper eyelid. It’s different from a brow lift, which is meant to elevate the eyebrow, but the two procedures are often done at the same time. Dr. Lee will work with you to evaluate your specific needs and concerns in regards to your eyelids and what is needed for your procedure.

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Blepharoplasty can help correct loose or sagging skin that can cause excess folds or “hooding” of the upper eyelids which sometimes interferes with vision.
This type of procedure may be done for cosmetic reasons if you’re unhappy about your appearance as you age. It may also be a functional procedure meant to restore vision by cutting away overhanging skin. It can also be done for both reasons.
Most patients are quite comfortable after surgery and may only require Tylenol. Once you are finished with your surgery, your eyes may feel tender and bruised, which is normal. Dr. Lee can discuss over-the-counter pain relievers and other treatments with you at your consultation. Most people do not even require prescription pain medications.
Upper lid blepharoplasty, when done alone, is commonly done under local anesthesia alone. Blepharoplasty can be combined with other plastic surgery procedures which may instead require general anesthesia.
Incisions will be made in a location such that the scar will blend in nicely with the natural contours of the eye once healed. For the upper eyelid, the incision is typically placed in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Excess skin and fat are meticulously measured and removed and incisions are closed.
Incisions are generally located inside the eyelid crease, which decreases its visibility after you’ve finished healing. The scar will fade even further over time.
In most cases, Upper Blepharoplasty in Chelmsford is purely cosmetic and is not covered by insurance providers. When you meet with Dr. Lee for your consultation, you can discuss financing or payment options.
Some bruising and swelling around the eyes can last for up to two weeks. While you can wear your glasses right away, you will want to avoid contact lenses for a few weeks. In addition, you should also avoid makeup for two to three weeks.
