Nasal reconstruction, more commonly known as rhinoplasty or a nose job, can dramatically improve appearance. Not only can this plastic surgery alter the size and shape of the nose to meet aesthetic goals, but it can also improve function.

Because it involves the delicate structure of the nose, the rhinoplasty procedure requires an experienced plastic surgeon with expertise in the anatomy of the nose, attention to detail, steady hands, and artistry.

Your privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance to us at PURE Cosmetic Center.

Many of our high-profile patients prefer to be private with their cosmetic procedures and prefer that their photographs not be placed online. At your consultation, you will be shown photographs of patients who have given us permission to display their before and after pictures.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that refines or alters the nose to enhance its appearance or improve proportions with the rest of the face. These surgical adjustments involve reshaping the bone, cartilage, and skin. A nose job can also include corrections to the structure of the nose to strengthen or improve the airway and allow better breathing.

Patients with one or more of the following conditions might benefit from rhinoplasty in Lowell:

  • A bump on the bridge of the nose (Dorsal hump)
  • A nose that is too wide or too narrow
  • A nose that is crooked, twisted, or deviated (Asymmetry)
  • A prominent nasal tip (round, bulbous, fatty, or out of proportion with the rest of the face)
  • A drooping nasal tip (when the angle between the upper lip and lower nose is less than 90 degrees)

People with deformities caused by an injury or problems with their nasal airways, such as internal valve collapse and septal deviation, may also find relief with rhinoplasty.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

As a central feature of your face, even slight imperfections of the nose can cause self-consciousness. Eliminating these imperfections can make a dramatic difference, boosting self-confidence and bringing everything into a more natural, beautiful balance. Rhinoplasty can help with the following:

  • Increasing or decreasing nose size
  • Reshaping the nostrils
  • Reducing the tip of the nose
  • Reducing the bridge of the nose
  • Improving breathing
  • Facial symmetry
  • Improving self-confidence

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Any adult in relatively good health with a face and nose that have finished growing can be a candidate for rhinoplasty. Patients should be relatively healthy, emotionally stable, and have realistic expectations.

During your Lowell rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Lee, you will discuss your concerns about your nose and whether this surgery can achieve the results you want. Since every patient is unique, Dr. Lee provides you with options for treatment and creates a plan based on your facial structure and needs.

What is the youngest age for rhinoplasty?

Even teens can benefit from rhinoplasty as long as their face and nose have finished growing. That’s usually by age 15 or 16 for females and 17 or 18 for males.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Two main techniques are used in nasal reconstruction surgery: closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty. Dr. Lee performs both types of procedures at PURE Cosmetic Center. The best technique for your nose depends on your anatomy and the results you are looking to achieve.

In either case, rhinoplasty is typically an outpatient surgery done under general anesthesia that involves detailed work on the underlying cartilage and bone of the nose.

In an open rhinoplasty, Dr. Lee accesses these structures through incisions in the skin that divides the nostrils and additional incisions inside the nose. Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions only on the inside of the nose.

Dr. Lee uses cartilage grafts to support the nose and help maintain your result over time. He may also perform procedures of the septum and turbinates to improve breathing. Cartilage harvested from the ear or rib is sometimes used to support and reshape the nose. Occasionally, Dr. Lee will harvest fascia from the scalp or abdomen for the same purpose.

Once the shape of the nose is corrected, the incisions are closed with sutures. Next, splints are placed inside the nose and over the bridge of the nose. Sutures are then removed during a follow-up visit seven days after surgery.

It would be best if you planned on taking at least a week off from work or other obligations after having nasal surgery. You may experience some discomfort, swelling, and pressure, which can be managed with ice and pain medications. Some bleeding from the nose is also common in the first few days after surgery.

It is essential to follow the guidelines and restrictions immediately following rhinoplasty, including avoiding lifting, bending at the waist, and activities that elevate heart or blood pressure for at least the first two weeks.

Bruising around the eyes generally resolves in 2-3 weeks. However, it can take a couple of months for most of the swelling to subside and 12 to 18 months for it to completely go away.

Rhinoplasty Results

Results from rhinoplasty will be noticeable immediately after surgery but can be hard to see before the splints come off. Once they do, you should see the improved nose shape even with the swelling. Results will only continue to get even better as the swelling resolves.

Does a nose job last forever?

The structural results of rhinoplasty will last a lifetime. Still, this procedure cannot stave off the effects aging, and exposure to the sun and environment can have on the skin over time.
